*struts in* Do I really need to introduce myself again? You all know me. Drop-dead good looks, perfect balance of wit and charm, etc. etc. I suspect many of you keep pictures of me handy, too. (I know I do.) But today I have something rather awesome to share you with. Our first YAvengers Truth or Dare, a feature here that happens every other week where we play truth or dare with authors and industry professionals. Our one and only goal? To embarrass them.
Today, our brave first victim is...
Patricia E. Riley!!!!!!
Patricia Riley is a Senior Editor at Spencer Hill Press and the Editor-In-Chief at their contemporary imprint, Spencer Hill Contemporary. (Patricia can be found online at: Goodreads | Tangled Up In Words | Twitter | Tumblr)
We chose the dare on her, and it was...
"Blog an awkward love letter to your favorite book character ever."
A perfect way to embarrass a professional person, as I see it. (Oddly, she didn't choose me to send the love letter to. I can't say this is the right choice, but okay.) Here is Patricia:
Hi Guys! The YAvengers have dared me to share an awkward love letter to my favorite literary character! Now, obviously, I keep a diary FULL of awkward love letter to characters – everyone from Anne (of Green Gables) to Zuzana (from Daughter of Smoke and Bone). When I fall for a book it is because of the characters, so choosing an absolute favorite is impossible! I wouldn’t normally share them, but I mean, let’s be real: Could YOU say no the Avengers?
I’ll just pick a random page here and share whichever letter I land on with you…
Dear Magnus Bane,
While I am aware that you have no idea who I am, you must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you. I have been a fan of your life since about 1890 and have watched you go through countless relationships between then and the present day. Not to be creepy or anything, but I probably know more about some of your relationships than you do! I’ve kind of been spending time in the minds of your friends, lovers, and acquaintances over the years.
And it’s not just that fact that you are gorgeously glitterific or know how to use eyeliner more effectively than almost anyone ever, but it’s what’s inside that really endears me to you. I love the fact that you love so hard, but are afraid to show it! I love the fact that you CARE about your friends and those you come across that need your help – with all you’ve seen in the past 900 years, that you are still able to empathize so deeply is amazing. Not to mention the fact that (as of last week when I listened to a certain audiobook) you sound just like Chuck Bass. And you’re hot…did I mention I love glitter?
I can only hope that once you receive this letter and understand how deep and obviously real by affection for you is that you will love me back, despite the fact that I am not a glamorous French vampire vixen or a pensive, yet dashing Shadowhunter boy… I may only be a mundane, but my feelings are magical and I *do* have dark hair and blue eyes!
Please don’t be creeped out by this letter and try to run away. It’s not really worth trying to get away, because no matter where you go
I’ll be stalking you…I mean, seeing you in March.
Truly, Madly, Deeply,
Thank you so much to the YAvengers for having me!
And there you have it, folks! Takeaways: I am perfect in every way, love letters are fun, and I am perfect in every way (again.) Thoughts? Suggestions for our next Truth or Dare? And don't forget to follow Patricia around the interwebz!
